Teston History Society
During 2018 the History Society has the following programme of events planned:
27th April – Ian Porter – ‘Suffragettes’
1st June – Jeremy Hodgkinson – The Iron Industry in the Weald ‘’
7th September – Simon Elliott – ‘Empire State – How the Roman Military Built an Empire’
2nd November – Ray Wilkinson – ‘The Battle of Medway AD43’
Membership fees are currently £7 yearly and £2 for visitors.
The close of 2017 saw the end of the ‘Teston Roman Villa’ excavations at Hop Gardens Stables as the owner sold the land. The society is now helping to put together a report summarising what was found during the 4 year dig. It is hoped that further investigations and possible excavation work will be taking place on adjacent land in the near future and that the society will continue to be closely involved.
2018 marks the centenary of the end of World War One and members of the society are working with the Church and Parish Council to stage a commemoration of the event on Sunday 11th November, culminating in the lighting of a beacon on the Village Green. More details will be announced later.
